We are concerned about the recent activities of Pervez Musharraf especially his speeches at different U.S. institutions for which he is being paid. This is a person who took power with force by overthrowing an elected government in October 1999 in Pakistan. He is responsible for imposing emergency rule, sacking the judiciary, and arresting the judges who disagreed with his methods of governing. He is also responsible for killing scores of innocent people and restricting the media to exercise its freedom of press during the emergency rule. The Supreme Court of Pakistan has declared all his actions unconstitutional and that he had broken the law several times. It is beyond our understanding how the well established U.S. institutions, which promote democracy and rule of law around the world, can invite a dictator such as him and then pay for his speeches.(Dr. Abdul Majeed)
