On days when CNG is not supplied, the transporters would get gas from stations owned by the Punjab government in cooperation with the federal government.

RAWALPINDI: The Punjab government has decided to launch 100 CNG buses in Rawalpindi to provide safe and affordable public transportation.

This was decided in a meeting on Tuesday that was headed by Punjab Transport Secretary Muhammad Yusuf and had Rawalpindi Commissioner Zahid Saeed, Rawalpindi DCO Saqib Zaffar, Chief Traffic Officer Ghulam Abbas Tarar, public representatives and transporters in attendance.
An official press release states that Punjab Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif had directed the district administration to launch the 100 buses.
It was discussed in the meeting that the provincial government would pay a 20 per cent subsidy to every bus and that the vehicles would ply different city routes.
A further 20 per cent of the total payment for the bus would be discounted for transporters, who have to pay through a five-year instalment plan.
The company manufacturing the buses would pay for spare parts, replacement tyres and batteries for the first five years.
On days when CNG is not supplied, the transporters would get gas from stations owned by the Punjab government in cooperation with the federal government.
Dispelling transporters fears, Regional Transport Authority Secretary Asad Kazmi said a Rs10 fare would be fixed for students to avoid any damage they may cause to the buses, as has been happening in the past.

Buses are environment friendly and in fact buses help in saving CNG. People do not use their own cars and one bus can take more than 50 people from one place to others. Imagine 50 cars travelling on the road are better or one bus carrying 50 people. I think this is a good idea in saving GAS.

Government of advance countries spend millions on their buses and trains and force. I work in UK and my company offer me an extra incentive if I do not bring my car to work. They give me discount on bus and train tickets. Are they stupid?

I am from Rawalpindi and travelled a lot there and believe me we need scheme like this.

Shame on Pagal Khan supporter who knows nothing but just blaming others.

CNG ka bohraan pehle hi chal raha hai aur tumhara Showbaaz Sharif CNG buses launch kar raha hai. Jo cars road pe pehle se hain wo khatam nahi ho jayen gi, matlab is se CNG consumption aur barhe gi, koi aqalmand insaan hota to CNG buses ka sochta bhi nahi. Mai ne ye nahi kaha ke BUSES nahi chalni chahiye, lekin mai itna jahil bhi nahi ke CNG wali buses ko support karun jab CNG hai hi nahi. Tum log bas jahil ban ke support karo aur Imran Khan ko gaalian do kyunke us ne tumhai syasi rishwat matlab Laptop nahi dia aur na us ne Supreme Court pe hamla kia, yehi us ka qasoor hai.

No one saying that people should sell their cars. People should use bus rather than taking cars to work. Energy crisis is in whole world. UK charge congestion charges in busy area of London if you take you car there. The only way you can save energy is to ask people start travelling by bus and trains. Whole world is spending money on mass transit system and you are telling me that they all are stupid and they should follow Pagal Khan too.

Again CNG bus is a good answer to control CNG shortage. Diesel and Petrol is very expensive and poor people will not be able to pay high bus fare. I wish Pakistan big cities can have underground or above ground train system too. Every big city in the world has huge bus and train system. For example millions of people go to Paris almost every month. Do you think Paris can control cars if every one take their cars their? Answer is no. As soon as you go there you are force to start using their bus and train system otherwise you spend your whole day in Trafic queue. Why other country can have these system? Why Punjab or Pakistan should not have huge bus and train system.

Read following and it might help in understanding what I am trying to say

Also, I am not here to defend PML(N) if they did something wrong now or in past. What I am saying is that bus system is good and if Pagal Khan gets into power then I hope he will also come with these ideas.

I agree that bus door should be closed when travelling. I remember there was a police officer in Rawalpindi who used to fine anyone who has people standing or hanging outside of bus or van. Van drivers used to hate him. He was a true gentleman.

There was an excellent bus service in Punjab back in the 70 and 80's, GTS with proper bus terminals all over Punjab. I used it alot in the mid 80's while travelling.

Unfortunately the transport mafia took over and this great bus service was sent to oblivion.

You are not here to defend PMLN criminals but surely you are here to talk rubbish about Imran Khan and abuse him, maybe he stole billions from Pakistan and is the reason for all our problems...
No one is against buses or public transport, the only point is that CNG should not be used for vehicles and should be given to industries and homes, i dont know about the world but surely Pakistan does not have enough gas to waste on vehicles. We lost majority of our industry because we cant give them gas and its a great loss for Pakistan and for the people of Pakistan.
Petrol prices are going down and if transporters reduce prices according to petrol price then public will have no problem paying the fares.
