yes pakistani people have big egos and they like khabay. you have to woo them to vote for you because ideological politics was finished by general zia. only karachi/lahore and kp people vote to party without knowing even name of candidate. in rest of pakistan people wont vote if the candidate doesnt come to their neighborhood to ask for vote.

IK doesnt know pakistani culture and doesnt want to get involved in constituency politics. But in parliamentary form of govt and pakistan in particular, constituency politics is the name of the game. finally after defeat in cantt elections, ik realized this and appointed CM sarwar, demoting drawing room politicians who do campaign on twitter. pti will give big surprise in local body elections where normally opposition has no chance.

Mohammad Sarwar, the MP for Glasgow Central, who has an estimated fortune of 16 million, has claimed close to the maximum under his second homes allowance since 2004.

He claimed almost 2,000 every month for the interest on his mortgage on a 600,000 apartment in an exclusive block in Vauxhall, south London, just over the river from the Houses of Parliament.

Mr Sarwar, the chairman of the Scottish Affairs Select Committee, also claimed more than 3,000 for ground rent and service charges every year as well as around 1,500 for council tax and hundreds of pounds for home phone bills that included calls to Pakistan.

Mr Sarwar claimed a total of 174,882 in expenses last year but turned up for only 55 per cent of votes, spoke in only nine debates and asked 55 parliamentary questions.

Since 2004 he has claimed a total of 86,497 in second homes allowance (Additional Costs Allowance) and a total of 638,640 in other expenses, including office and staff costs.

In June 2006 the Parliamentary Fees Office wrote to Mr Sarwar to ask for repayment of 580.39 after an audit of his claims discovered that he had submitted some claims twice – and therefore had been reimbursed twice.
His mortgage is paid from a UK branch of the Swiss-based Habib Bank AG Zurich.
He is no stranger to controversy. Soon after his election in 1997 he was suspended from the Parliamentary Labour Party over allegations of bribing political opponents, and stood trial for fraud. He was acquitted.
Mr Sarwar was unavailable for comment yesterday. A worker in his office said he was opening a charity hospital in Pakistan. "Mr Sarwar does call Pakistan a lot on behalf of his constituents as you would expect," she said. "He could make those calls for free from the House of Commons. He does not make any claims for food and he spends thousands of pounds of his own money on the constituency office which is open from nine to five every day. He hasn't claimed office rent and doesn't claim travel within his constituency."
She added that he had made several visits to Pakistan at his own expense as part of his efforts to bring to justice the killers of teenager Kriss Donald who was murdered in a racially-motivated attack in Glasgow in 2004.

Athif Sarwar leaves court with his wife Michelle, mother, and father, MohammedThe son of Scotland's first Muslim MP has had a his conviction for a 850,000 money laundering scam overturned by appeal judges.
Athif Sarwar, 32, was jailed for three years after being found guilty of using the family's cash and carry business to conceal the proceeds of VAT frauds.
Appeal judges agreed there was a lack of evidence to link him to the crime.
His father, former Labour MP Mohammed Sarwar, said his son had been the victim of "institutionalised racism".
During his trial, the Crown said Athif Sarwar, then managing director of United Wholesale warehouse in Glasgow, had used the business to launder the money in return for a 10% cut.
'Perverse' verdicts

Since the guilty verdict in May 2007, Mr Sarwar, from Mearnskirk, East Renfrewshire, continued to protest his innocence.
Just two weeks after he was sentenced he was freed to await the outcome of his appeal.

Mr Sarwar claimed he suffered a miscarriage of justice because there was not enough evidence to link him to the scam, which was said to be going on between February and April 2003.
He also claimed the jury verdicts were perverse because another man, Mansoor Khan, then 43, of Giffnock, Glasgow, who was assistant manager at Sarwar's United Wholesale warehouse, was cleared.
After appeal judges overturned his son's conviction, former MP Mohammed Sarwar hit out at the authorities who brought the case.
Leaving court with his son, Mr Sarwar said: "I believe institutionalised racism has played a part. My family and myself have suffered for the last eight years and this was a living hell for my family.
The former MP called for an inquiry into the 2003 investigation by HM Revenue and Customs (HMRC) which eventually led to his son standing trial at the High Court in Glasgow.
"I believe the Crown got it wrong, HMRC got it wrong and - I am saying this with a heavy heart - that Lord Carloway, the trial judge, got it wrong."
But, he added: "We are proud of Scottish justice, where justice can prevail, and the calibre of the appeal judges really impressed me."
