It appears pakistanis may need that as well especially considering the first death from this bacteria occured after a belgian man was treated in a hospital in Pakistan. He died despite being administered colistin, a powerful antibiotic. News articles quoted a pakistani doctor involved in this mans treatment said, "He was involved in a car accident during a trip to Pakistan. He was hospitalised with a major leg injury and then repatriated to Belgium, but he was already infected". This happened just few months ago in Aug/10.

NDM-1 will only cause resistance against Beta-Lactam antibiotics which include classes like pencillins, cephalosporins, monobactams and carbapenems.

It has no effect on other antiobiotic classes like quinolones, flouroquinolones, aminoglycosides, tetracyclines and others.
