An open letter to President Obama

Published On Wed Nov 24 2010

Mr. President, we are brought here today by the very designs of destiny. We stand together in this moment amidst the cosmic tides of profound and utter change. We stand together at the brink of an uncertain future.
Mr. President, you are called to this moment in history not by the mere act of your campaign but by the pull and yen of the human spirit. Sir, you were made President not just by the people of America, but by all the people of the world. You were raised up as the bright light of hope that all that has gone wrong in the world could be righted.
You were to answer the snarls of greed and corruption with the peoples cry for truth, justice, equality, and ultimately, freedom. You were to be the bridge, and it was to have been your very own back that the poor, the oppressed, and the needful crossed over into a better future.
But you have not met change with change. The bailouts and legislative reforms are like putting your finger in the damn, and then lining up all the kings horses and all the kings men to push on your back. The economy continues to de-stabilize, sir, and the people cannot bear more of a tax load than they presently carry. There is already a seething toward deep social unrest in your country. And what affects your country also affects my own.
The key to a stable and long-term future is balance, is it not? In balance lies the truth in practice of the common good. And, where balance is the goal of any system, equality is inbred, and greed becomes naturally intolerable. Sir, it is necessary that you enact systems of governance that will protect, nourish, and increase the common good.
Would you stand by while the better future is used up by the fearful financial kings and queens whose greed serves their need for wealth-in-excess at the expense of the people? The greatest opportunity that time could possibly offer lies before you now. Would you be the lever of change?
Do you have the vast amount of courage it would take to change the course of humanity? It is what the people elected you to do, and it is time. Can you not hear us calling you?
