Desertification on RISE in Pakistan: Thar (Tharparker) and Thal (Cholistan)
Desertification on RISE in Pakistan: Thar (Tharparker) and Thal (Cholistan)
2 very important points when this watching this video and theory in context of Pakistan:
1:- WAPDA tried to stop increasing desertification of Tharparker/Sindh by irrigation through canals from Indus river, but the problem is that Thar desert delta is at higher altitude than Indus river bed (on average 20-50 feet), thus irrigation has limited scope in this case.
2:- Furthermore, unlike the other deserts, Thar receives very little rainfall and it is due to the fact that Thar Desert belongs to Monsoon deserts category. Due to the large temperature differences between sea and land, the moist warm air rises over the land, and circulates back to sea. So the further inland areas (e.g. Northern Sindh, Southern Punjab) receive very little rain.
Baba jee in this video, was talking about the deserts which receive considerable rainfall, this is not the case for Thar and Thal, unfortunately.
