Re: Aitzaz's Daughter Got Married

Not sure where you came up with this statistic. I believe you are wrong in your assertion that 'most' Norwegians are aethists.

All the sources state otherwise. Its hard for people to believe but Norway surprisingly has a majority of people who belong to organized religion - which is Protestant (Evangelical-Lutheran).

Here is one source but you can check others too:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Religion_in_Norway

It says that a large number of people, almost 79% of people are part of this religion.

The only thing I am going to say is that you are entitled to have your own opinions but you are not entitled to have your own facts ;-)

Form the same Wikipedia article you linked :

In 2005, a survey conducted by Gallup International in sixty-five countries indicated that Norway was the least religious country in Western Europe, with 29% counting themselves as believing in a church or deity, 26% as being atheists, and 45% not being entirely certain.
[SUP][20][/SUP]

So they are technically mostly agnostic.
But for practical purposes in day to day life and broadly speaking on values Atheist or Agnostic are pretty much the same.
So thats 71% who either does not believe in a god or are not really interested.

Membership to a church is more about community/Identity not religion.
They most they probably do is put up Christmas decorations.

Infact there is a Wikipedia entry:
Christianity in Norway - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Christianity
is the largest religion in Norway. Norway has historically been called a Christian country, but according to the most recent Eurobarometer Poll 2005,[SUP][1][/SUP] only 32% of the Norwegian population say they believe there is a God. A majority of the population are members of the Church of Norway. Many Norwegians are secular; only 32% practice their respective faith. Only 12% of the population attend church services each month.[SUP][2][/SUP] [HI]Citizens born in Norway to one or two Norwegian parents are automatically added to the list of [/HI][HI]Protestant Christians in Norway, and are required to "sign out" of the church.[/HI]

Norway has one of the lowest church attendance in the world. In contrast to 250,000 in whole Norway, 43,500 attend just one church in the United States every week (Lakewood Church) and 23,000 attend just one church in Australia (Hillsong Church). The U.S state of Alabama has a population around the same size as Norway's population, but church attendance in Alabama is as high as 11 times higher than in Norway.

Okay - so the argumentcould be whether they are 'good' church attending christians or not - Well, I am not in a position to judge. As you quoted they are considered part of the church 'unless' they opt out. They don't chose to do so even if they don't want to go to the church.

As for the number still 32% saying that they certainly do believe that there is a God and almost 45% saying that they are not sure and only 26% are certainly atheists. Now these numbers are open to interpretation - you may see it as atheists or agnostics since they don't conform to yours or my view of what a 'good' religious person should think, or how to respond to a gallup survey or attend a church.

The bottom line is that they are 32% + 45% is a significant number since you or I can't peek into the hearts of these 45%.

strange. I have talked to aitizaz ahsan,s brother.this family of aitizaz is so secular they are against any kind of Islamic law in Pakistan .they want total secular society.still he had to make drama of "conversion" of islam of their daughters husband.which shows that even seculars in Pakistan want to "merge" with mainstream Pakistanis .as majority Pakistani still respects islam.or maybe they just want to make fool of Pakistanis.this is same aitizaz who is biggest advocate of "mahabaharat" .raed his book indus saga.this book is a filth against Pakistan,s two nation theory.he loves hindus it seems

Read the Amjad Hussains book Rangeela Wazeer e azam about Nawaz Shareefs Rangeen Nights , In this book it is written that Ahtazaz Ahsan and Bushra Ahtazaz both are Qadyanies. So according to this book both husband and wife are not muslims

Dont get me wrong, this entire discussion is meaningless.
Just curiosity. Other wise no one is actually interested.
Siasat.pk isnt going to dispatch Khutna inspectors anytime soon:P
Aitizaz and Family from what I have are probably just as irreligious.
Cultural Muslims at most. This is almost a non issue.

Its pretty rediculous the papers printed this "Clarification".

That tedious long winded Brit George ka Pakistan married a local.
And never converted he had a morning show and a column and the issue never came up.
Happens all the time.
In Expat communities I know of religious Hijab wearing women
being married to complete Atheist. Life is complicated. Everyone does not share your values etc.

There is another strictly theological discussion on the religious view on this.
Which doesnt really apply here. That would be of interest to someone in that position,
who has a religious identity.

But I think strictly factually its a stretch to say Norway is a Christian country.

Its probably one of the least religious countries in Europe.
I agree, Its a moot point though..

Well Nordic countires have some of the lowest circumcision rates in the world.
1.1% in Norway. And the numbers of Muslim is 1% and of Jews .1%.
So a christian/Atheist etc will most likely not be circumcised lol
Global circumcision rates | CIRCS

According to the same report:

In Pakistan 96.3 of the Males are circumcised,:mash:
And 96.3 of the population is Muslim lol:pakistan-flag-wavin

Very important Siasi discussion.
We should hold a Presser and demand Aitizaz submits his son in law to a panel of inspectors from here.:P
Better yet he should first present *ahem * ahem* himself.

How is Aitzaz's daughter in public office and why is her private life fair game? I am not sure how are you using your own logic as Islamic. I am not sure that anywhere in Islam its incumbent upon people to make other's private affairs as fair game for all to discuss?

Not sure how casually you are tying marriage between two people (and as the new item reported the guy converted and had nikah done) with illicit sex in the same breath. Please don't let your imagination run wild just because a desi woman is marrying a gora ;-)

Daughter is not but the DAD is in public office.

Thats just IT, I asked where was it mentioned in the news post that the groom was a convert. But nobody reply I think. A man has to be a convert BEFORE nikah, to be valid

Re: Aitzaz's Daughter Got Married

I also think that its a futile discussion. I just wanted to point to someone who implied that if the guy is a Norwegian than he must be an atheist.

Remember I told you that you are a numbers guy - you indeed are along with being detailed oriented and you did find the finer details about the stats that I presented - I thank you for that! However I still think that 32% of people proclaiming that they firmly believe in God and around 45% who are not sure - if even if we assume that slightly less than half of them do believe in some form of a supreme being - then that would make the number pretty significant.

Still I agree with you that it is a meaningless discussion.
