AGP rejects PM’s reference for reconciliation commission

Attorney General has rejected summary sent by Prime Minister to form a reconciliation commission.

Benazir Bhutto had suggested forming a Truth and Reconciliation Commission on the pattern of South Africa. Documents available with Dunya News reveal that Prime Minister Yousaf Raza Gilani had sent a reference to the Law Ministry, directing it to work out a proposal.

The Law Ministry sent the reference to Attorney General of Pakistan Moulvi Anwarul Haq. The AGP returned the reference with the remarks that there was no need to establish such a commission. He further remarked that history of the world witnessed that such commissions were formed in specific circumstances.
