LONDON: Former Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif was subjected to an attack while at a café in Central London late on Saturday evening.
According to eyewitness Khurram Butt, one man has been arrested by the police for attacking Nawaz Sharif. The assailant threw coffee at his vehicle, kicked and damaged the car. Khurram Butt, who was present at the scene, took to Twitter to report the incident: "PTI goons this evening attacked Mian Nawaz Sharif's vehicle. Nawaz Sharif is fine and unhurt. Alhamdulillah. The attacker has been arrested and is in police custody." He also shared pictures of the vehicle and the apprehended individual being taken away by the police.
At the time of the incident, Nawaz Sharif was accompanied by his two bodyguards at the café. Reports suggest that a group of approximately 10 men approached him, shouting abuses and pro-PTI slogans. One of the protesters attempted to physically attack Nawaz Sharif but was restrained by the guards, while the others resorted to verbal abuse but refrained from physically assaulting him.
A spokesperson for the Sharif family stated that the matter has been reported to the police, and efforts are underway to ascertain the identity of the attacker.
