They and the Chinese have asked to bring political certainty and IK has been asking for elections (which is what establishment does not want). They are trying to damage PTI’s credibility and push them into a corner (and get it banned if possible) to help bring stability and political certainty.

What these dumb generals don’t understand is that it would bring destabilization and create more chaos in the longer run…they may become successful in a short run.
