Muhammad Hanif Abbasi (Urdu: محمد حنيف عباسى‎; born 4 January 1966) is a Pakistani businessman and politician. He was elected as a member of the National Assembly of Pakistan, representing Rawalpindi, on the ticket of the Pakistan Muslim League, in 2008. He was involved in an ephedrine controversy in 2012.

In 1986 Mr. Hanif Abbasi was running a general store in Omar Block Allama Iqbal Town, Lahore. Later on after the death of his father he became a branch manager of Habib Industrial Cooperative Corporation Ltd. and then in 1990 he moved to Rawalpindi. This is the surprising story of this businessman cum politician.

ISLAMABAD: Control of Narcotics Substances (CNS) court of Rawalpindi on Wednesday indicted the Pakistan Muslim League–Nawaz (PML-N) leader, Hanif Abbasi, and eight others in ephedrine case.
Abbasi, who is currently supervising the metro bus project, is accused of misusing 500kg controlled chemical ephedrine which he obtained for his pharmaceutical company, Gray Pharmaceutical, in 2010. But instead of using it in medicine he allegedly sold it to narcotics smugglers.
The CNS court also indicted Basit Abbasi, brother of Hanif Abbasi, distributor and employees of Grey pharma.
The Anti Narcotics Force (ANF) had registered a case against Abbasi and his accomplices in June 2012 under section 9-C, 14 and 15 of the CNS Act under which an accused may get the death sentence if convicted.
The accused in the ephedrine case has also been charged under section 14-15 of CNS Act for abetment in the said ‘crime’.
The challan includes the statements of two officials of Arafaat Traders, the Karachi-based medicine distribution company to whom Abbasi claimed to have supplied 11,000 ephedrine-containing tablets. The officials of the distribution company denied Abbasi’s claim, the challan revealed, though previously the same company had earlier confirmed before the ANF that Abbasi had provided them ephedrine-containing tablets.
Challan also incorporated statement of Razia Bakhtawari, the owner of D-Watson Chemist. She contradicted the statement of Abbasi of supplying the ephedrine contained medicine to her outlets.
During the hearing, ANF prosecutor general Shahid Abbasi, the accused and their counsels were present in the court.
CNS Judge Mohammad Akhtar Bahadur read out the charges against the accused. However, the accused pleaded not guilty.
Subsequently, the judge directed the prosecution to produce evidence against the accused and adjourned the proceedings till September 4.
On the next date the prosecution would produce 10 witnesses out of total 40 witnesses.

RAWALPINDI: A Control of Narcotics Substances (CNS) court on Wednesday indicted former MNA of Pakistan Muslim League – Nawaz Hanif Abbasi and seven others in the ephedrine case today, Express News reported.
Hanif Abbasi was accused of misappropriating 500kg of the controlled chemical ephedrine, obtained in 2010, and allegedly selling it to narcotics smugglers.
During the hearing today, Judge Akhtar Bahadur issued notices to all the witnesses in the case and asked them to appear for the next hearing on November 12.
Abbasi denied these charges and said the case was based on ill-intent.
Earlier, the court had deferred the indictment of these accused as one of them was away to perform Hajj.
Anti-Narcotics Force (ANF) had submitted a challan in the CNS court in the past and declared Abbasi, his brother and five employees of Grey Pharmaceuticals as accused.

Lacking money trail or not bear in mind Sharif is holding public office when he own assets but IK never held Public funds when he had assets. Sharif took money out of the country and IK brought it back home.

[/h] RAWALPINDI: A narcotics court of Rawalpindi on Wednesday indicted ten accused including former MNA of Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) Hanif Abbasi in the ephedrine case.

During the hearing today, Judge Akhtar Bahadur indicted Hanif Abbasi, his brother Basit Abbasi and eight others in the ephedrine case. The judge also issued notices to all the witnesses in the case and asked them to appear for the next hearing on November 12.

Hanif Abbasi, however, denied the charges and said that the said drug was used in the medicine manufacturing and it’s already on record.

Later, the court adjourned the hearing till November 12.
