I am not saying Pakistan is important for them or not, but they won't have it what it takes to be a purely sovereign country without relying on others for their export and import.

Afghans were always unfriendly to Pakistan but Pakistan is not blameless either.Pakistan wanted to use Afghanistan for strategic depth.It started interfering in Afghanistan’s internal affairs.Many t Afghan Tajiks started hating Pakistan when Pakistan started sending extremist Taliban into Afghanistan.When Pakistan joined US war of terror after 9/11 it made Afghan Taliban an enemy.In short wrong foreign policies made by generals has created problems.Note the generals control foreign and defence policies.

Pakistan would have never thought of placing its nose in Afghanistan unless the USSR didn't push it weight through Afghanistan borders by attacking them and invading them. It was Pakistan which stood behind Afghans freedom fighters, for good or for bad.
It is not to say that Pakistan did not take advantage of the situation when Russian withdrew, but that was a nature reaction to fill the vacuumed created by its withdrawal.
