US adds Pakistan, Turkey to child soldier recruiter list​

WASHINGTON: The United States on Thursday added Pakistan and Turkey to its Child Soldiers Prevention Act (CSPA) list, a designation that could lead to strict sanctions on military assistance and listed countries’ participation in peacekeeping programmes.
The designation is included in the US State Department’s annual Trafficking in Persons (TIP) report, which ranks countries in various tiers in accordance with their efforts for eliminating trafficking.
The US Child Soldiers Prevention Act requires publication in the annual TIP report of a list of foreign governments that have recruited or used child soldiers during the previous year (April 1, 2020, to March 31, 2021). The entities reviewed for this designation include armed forces, police, other security forces and government-supported armed groups.
The 2021 CSPA list includes governments of the following countries: Afghanistan, Burma, Democratic Republic of Congo, Iran, Iraq, Libya, Mali, Nigeria, Pakistan, Somalia, South Sudan, Syria, Turkey, Venezuela and Yemen.

Military and economic aid has been blocked for years now. Only military to military relations are active due to US military pressure. Trump ended military to military relations between the US and Pakistan. Trump had to reinstate military to military relations because US military wants to engage with Pak military. The US military wants to influence Pak military. Pakistani military officers receive training in US military institutions. In other words, military to military relations are detrimental for Pakistan. You will notice that the Americans will end all relations with Pakistan, but never military to military relations. There is a lot at stake for the US militarily.

Uncle Sam is very desperate. Shopping for military bases and getting rejected by every regional country. We should gear up for US and Western sour grape mode. US/NATO hasn't achieved a single objective in Afghanistan and blaming Pakistan is their only way of scapegoating. There is every likelihood the Americans are going to apply sanctions against Pakistan.

Finally Pak has realised that regional alliances and trade is the way forward. Keep engaged with the Americans and Europeans, but only for trade. Nothing more nothing less. Pak should also aggressively expand its trading partners all over the world. Look at South America, Africa, Asia and the Middle East for new trading partners. The world is a big place and Pakistan needs to diversify.

This was going to happen irrespective of Musharraf policies. Sure, Musharraf made blunders, but he wasn't an enemy of Pakistan. Musharraf was shortsighted at the time and circumstances were very tough for Pakistan. Pakistan did the best it could. Now is the time to unveil new strategies. The US war in Afghanistan is over. Pakistan must play this very smartly. Extend CPEC to Afghanistan and Central Asia. Once the Americans have left Afghanistan on September 11th Pakistan needs to step in and invite China/Russia for a peace moot. Pakistan should facilitate China to reach Afghanistan through CPEC route. China is hungry for trillions worth of Afghan minerals and natural resources. If Pakistan manages to bring peace to Afghanistan and exploit trade through China a new era will begin. An era of regional prosperity. India and the US will try their best to create instability. We have to remain cautious and alert.
