Teens invention could charge cellphone in 20 seconds

SARATOGA: A California teens invention could potentially knock down cellphone-charging time to a superfast 20 seconds.

So far, the energy-storage device has powered only an LED light, but it has the potential to do much more.

The future certainly looks bright for 18-year-old Eesha Khare, who pocketed a $50,000 prize for the Young Scientist award from the Intel International Science and Engineering Fair in Phoenix, Ariz., for her tiny and possibly revolutionary device.

Khare sees the device as potentially powering car batteries, cellphones or any electronics that could use a rechargeable battery.

My cellphone always dies, Khare explained to NBC San Francisco, when asked what inspired her invention.

The supercapacitor, she explains on CBS San Francisco, is basically an energy source device that can hold a lot of energy in a small amount of volume.

The Harvard-bound teen has caught the attention of Google, who has approached her about her device.

Regardless of what happens to the supercapacitor, we're sure to hear more from the high school seniorat least according to Khare. Im going to be setting the world on fire, she said.

I think it not charger only its about a new battery type itself to which they are calling supercapacitor.
Supercapacitors are there for long time in values of few farads and used in many devices for an auxiliary source.
If she has done some thing new in supercap its really impressive.
But if just usage of supercap in this application its not really a big deal. But winning such a huge price in some intel based competition I am assuming this is something big coming.

Before petrol there were steam engines. Then petrol engines were created(with the discovery of petrol). Then Gas cylinders were made because Gas was discovered. Then Electricity was introduced in cars with the invention of electricity. Then Ethanol(extracted from the sugar cane) which is under process because a special engine is being built to run cars with ethanol. I am sure even water and air can be used as fuel in cars but it will need a master mind(or masterminds) to design engine for it. So the discoveries are endless. One more thing recently wireless electricity has been introduced which i personally thought was impossible because i thought if there will ever be wireless electricity, it will give you a shock when you pass through the wireless electricity field but the fact is that some master minds have actually prepared it and now using it in small scale using some different technique than the one i thought(it doesn't give you a shock). So everything is possible, it just needs the right technique. When you discover the right technique you get the key to that discovery.

Well according to wired.com , it is not possible what she did. They are trying to claim capacitors that what Eesha used for charging mobile batteries can not hold that much energy which is required by mobile battery.
They actually proof it scientifically as well
