ISLAMABAD: The Zardari supporters in the PPP have decided to show their strength at a public rally before the Presidency and the Parliament House on Thursday and to show solidarity with Zardari and lash out at the party leaders deliberately avoiding to defend him within the PPP.
The youth wing will lead the rally of different arms of the PPP in front of the Parliament House after marching through various parts of Islamabad and from various roads towards the capital to give a three-pronged message, the party sources disclosed to The News on Sunday.
They also revealed that President Zardari had extended his backing to the plan of show of
strength at Islamabad. But he personally stopped the emotional youth from carrying any sort of portrait or from displaying banners against the judiciary or any political party.
However, the PPP wings will be independent to target those opportunists sitting silently enjoying the power while being irrelevant to the grievances of the grassroot-level activists. Yes, there is a pile of complaints against almost every minister that the PPP workers are being ignored, the Presidency sources said. The youth will play its role in correcting the party leaders as well as conveying a message of Asif Zardari to forces outside the party.
President PPP Youth Organisation (PYO), Rawalpindi Division, Syed Qamar Abbas Shah, when contacted confirmed that he would lead the rally planned to be staged on the Constitutional Avenue. It is not supposed to record a sort of protest against the judges or the judiciary but to pay a tribute to Asif Ali Zardari who has been left alone by the veteran figures within the party sitting like silent spectators instead of defending his position.
Qamar Abbas went on to maintain that although the PPP had grievances at the recent statements, particularly delivered by Chief Justice Lahore High Court Khawaja Sharif, yet the planned rally would observe silence and show tolerance as the top command had instructed it for strengthening democracy.
The basic purpose behind the rally is to demonstrate that the party activists at the lower level stand by Asif Zardari instead of following into the footsteps of prominent figures presently part of the government, he said. Ironically, our ministers are neither here nor there.
We will highlight the problems confronted by the workers, the apathetic attitude of ministers with them, their inability and deliberate avoidance to protect the president, and commend the sacrifices of President Zardari, PM Gilani and Faryal Talpur, he said.
Abbas disclosed that ANPs Islamabad President Afzal Bugti would also join the PPP wings gathering in form of a rally at the City Bank Chowk and then march together in one procession on the Constitutional Avenue. Our major rally will start from the Benazir House and all rallies will club together at the City Bank Chowk.
The youth wing will also be joined by labour, women and other wings in the rally as all these are deprived ones in the party and there is no one to listen to their grievances despite the party co-chairmans clear directives.
At the same time, the insiders at the deprived wings said that the participants, without holding traditional placards and banners, will demonstrate what President Zardari desires. To a question, they said that Asif Zardari is alone among the party central command whose backing was sought for the rally without disclosing it to the public. The programme will also be hundred percent in his support as it is being staged with his approval.
Besides PYO Pindi Division President Syed Qamar Abbas, President PYO Islamabad Agha Muhammad Ali, Vice President Malik Nadeem, Ali Asghar, Mani Butt and Shakeel Abbasi are the front liners and are hectically engaged in preparations for the rally.
Arrangements are being finalised for the rallies that would be coming from Jhelum, Chakwal, Gujar Khan and other areas of the Punjab and the NWFP as none of the central leaders is invited for participation. However some leaders may join it in front of the Parliament House on their own. The sources elaborated that the emotional youth had serious complaints against the ministers, including Babar Awan
