We don't have such mega structures because, our politicians and power holders not thinking about it. Musharaf was having a chance to start such project.
China is building 10 dams (small and large) every year and Pakistan could not build one in last 50 years. Why ? Devide Pakistan into four parts, every part will build 50 dams in a year.

As being a civil engineer, I always wish to work Hoover dam and Golden gate bridge. These two structures are really an epitome of civil engineering, both constructed for serving extraordinary and unique.
Hoover dam is no doubt a mammoth civil engineering structure built some 80 years before and we in Pakistan still fighting for Kalabagh dam, if USA can divert Colorado river with a great ambition why we can't. We can't stake lives of 180 million people only for the sake of 80000 and for Charsadda city.

Named one of the Top 10 Construction Achievements of the 20th Century, Hoover Dam continues to draw crowds more than 80 years after its creation. But why Pakistan cannot do it. In Pakistan there is no realization, understanding and education. They just keep fighting with each other, they keep suffering from devastating floods, severe drought and terrible darkness. It is the fate who fail to learn.
WRONG! Tarbela dam was built in 60s/70s, for example. But yeah they didn't build enough especially more recently.
Tubela Dam is the biggest Earth filled dam in the world having 2nd largest water reservoir holding capicity in the world. The work of this dam was started in Presdeent Ayub's era in 1963 and completed in 1976. Its reservoir will be full of sediment in 2030 making it useless after 17 years from now. Any similar big dam would take almost 10 years from planning to completion with modern machines. But Pakistan has no will to build any new dam in future. It mean Pakistanis will definitely die in dark desert just two decades from now.

We have been busy building "Jihadi Dams" for the last 40 years(bigsmile).
To survive Pakistan in 21st century Pakistan has to save water. It is only possible by making new dams. Mangla and Terbela will be out of fucntion in 2 decades from now.

You are right but we should not forget that Pakistan is in a state of war for last 50 years (since East Pakistan was chopped off). Suvival comes first, Pakistan still fighting for its survival. Someone has to save Pakistan from the killing machines and return Pakistan to its previous glory. Whole Nation should take courage in making a policy to fight terrorism. Courts should realize we are in the middle of a war. Courts should hang them who kill others in the name of religion and political parties should stop supporting them. Army alone is not enough. Nation should stand up and side with Pakistan.

Irony is that Pakista is in a state of War with Pakistanis themselves. . .every corrupt wants to rule thinks himself as Messiah of Pakistan, every religious leader thinks his sect is right and others are destined for hell so they have taken upon themselves to fast track that hell journey for others.(serious)
These are all signs of destruction. We have to learn again the lesson of Unity, Faith and Discipline.
