ISLAMABAD: The Upper House of the Parliament on Wednesday adopted a unanimous resolution, condemning the statement of Punjab Law Minister Rana Sanaullah against Babar Awan.

The House also demanded the Punjab government to remove Sanaullah from his current post and take disciplinary action against him.

The resolution moved by Opposition Leader in the Senate Maulana Abdul Ghafoor Haideri stated that this House moves a unanimous resolution on the statement of the Punjab Law Minister in which he had said that Senator Babar Awan was liable to be murdered.

The Resolution said that if Awan was harmed in any way then all the responsibility would fall on the Punjab Government.

Senators from the treasury and opposition benches taking part in the debate condemned the statement of the Punjab Law Minister and called for a unanimous resolution against it.

Senator Salahuddin Dogar while condemning the statement of Sanaullah said that PPP was not afraid of such statements as it was the party of Shuhada. He said that being the law minister Sanaullah was not aware of the law.

Senator Hafiz Abdur Rashid said that giving decrees against a Muslim that he is liable to death itself comes in the definition of infidelity.

Gul Mohammad Lat said that the culture of tolerance is a must in politics and demanded of Punjab government to remove Sanaullah from his post. Senator Haseeb Khan demanded the government that the matter is of very sensitive nature and proper security should be provided to Awan from today onwards.
Law Minister Maula Baksh Chandio said that criticizing the Punjab government is the political right of Awan as he is an important member of PPP. He said that every citizen has the right to speech and writing.

He said that the leadership of PML-N should have taken a notice of it as to instigate someone is itself a criminal offence. The politics of revenge will damage the democratic process in the country, he added. Senator and Chairman 18th Amendment Implementation Commission, Raza Rabbani said that the whole society is heading towards brutalization and political differences are being resolved through law of the jungle which is a dangerous trend.

The behavior of law enforcing agencies, usurping the rights of women, parading a woman naked on the streets reflects the direction our society is going towards.
We are heading towards a state within a state which itself is going to crumble, the Senator said. He said that this is the time for the nation to awaken and realize that brutalization of society leads towards total destruction. He said Mian Nawaz Sharif should take notice of Sanaullahs statement.

Condemning the statement by Punjab Law Minister, Rana Sanaullah, Senator Babar Ghouri said that nobody has the right to award decree that such and such person was liable to be murdered (Wajb-ul-Qatl).

Senator Zahid Khan said that the statement shows that the Punjab Law Minister has links with terrorists who used to give such statements while Senator Shabbir Khan said that awarding decrees was the job of Ulema so a strong protest should be launched against this act.

Senator Kulsum Perveen also demanded that Sanaullah should be removed from his post while Madam Syeda commented that it seems as if the Punjab Law Minister has links with terrorists.

Azam Swati said that the statement breached the privilege of the Upper House while Kazim Khan said that the statement should be studied more deeply instead of taking it just as a threat.

Mir Israr Ullah Zehri, Wali Badani, Soleh Shah Rehmat Kakar, Tahir Mashadi and Khalid Somroo also condemned the act, saying that if anything happens to Awan and he is injured or hurt, Sanaullah should be held responsible.

The Punjab law minister says he will reply to Punjab Governor Latif Khosa’s letter.

Talking to the media, Punjab Law Minister Rana Sanaullah said that the governor should have asked him for an explanation in line with his constitutional authority, adding that a six-day-old matter had been raised after instructions from the Presidency.

Babar Awan is not a devil, but has devilish personality as he frequently visits Lahore and yells, Sanaullah said, adding that he would be paid back in the same coin.

The minister denied having said that Babar was liable to be killed. Instead, he said that he prayed for his long life.

LAHORE, June 15: Punjab Assembly proceedings came to a grinding halt on Wednesday when the august members “exposed” each other instead of dissecting and discussing the budget.
The house remained in bedlam when Opposition Leader Raja Riaz took up a two-day old statement by Law Minister Rana Sanaullah in which PPP Senator Babar Awan was declared “liable to be killed”. Both the opposition and the treasury exchanged harsh words leading to boycott of the proceedings by the PPP.
The house sitting, as per routine, started late from its scheduled time. Taking floor on a point of order, Mr Riaz condemned Sana’s statement and warned that the law minister and the chief minister would be held responsible if something untoward happened to Mr Awan or any other PPP leader.
“The statement is irresponsible which not only hurt the sentiments of PPP workers but also earned a bad name for this prestigious house. We won’t let the province become Karachi or Kharotabad,” the PPP leader said.
Calling Rana Sana’s “provocative” statements an attempt to appease top PML-N leadership, the PPP leader alleged
provocative statements by Mr Sana had instigated the killing of governor Salmaan Taseer.
He accused the minister of having connections with terrorist organisations, and demanded his removal from the cabinet.
He reminded the treasury about Sana’s controversial statements issued in the 80s, when he would accuse the Sharifs of pocketing Rs860 million in the shadowy privatisation deal of a bank.
The opposition leader demanded that the law minister tender an apology before the house or the speaker make a committee to probe the issue.
PPP MPA Shaukat Basra alleged the law minister was the ring leader of terrorist outfits and land grabbers and was toeing a specific agenda. He said keeping the minister’s mindset as well as his alleged links with terrorist organisations, the religious parties had demanded his removal from the cabinet.
Responding to PPP’s fierce onslaught on Rana Sana, PML-N legislators stepped forward to support him.
Tahir Khalil Sindhu said every one knew that Mr Awan had fled the scene when (PPP chairperson) Benazir Bhutto was assassinated at Liaquat Bagh. He said Mr Awan also had a role in the killing of Salmaan Taseer and former federal minister for minorities’ affairs Shahbaz Bhatti.
PPP MPAs staged a walkout and protested outside the assembly building.
The chair adjourned proceedings for one hour to strike a patch-up between the “warring” sides. At a meeting either side met at the speaker’s chamber where both the treasury and opposition reconciled and the house resumed its routine business at
around 12:55pm.
The law minister clarified that he or his party had no intention to harm the property or life of any individual. He said he had only expressed lawyers’ stance about Mr Awan.
The opposition leader said the chief minister had assured them that the incident would not be repeated in the future and that “we must respect each other’s leadership”.
CM’s Senior Adviser Sardar Zulfiqar Khosa and PML-Q Parliamentary Leader Chaudhry Zaheer endorsed and appreciated the viewpoint of the opposition leader
