Glad that Qureshi has brought out the issue of Jonagarh. This is also an unresolved issue of partition. Some other issues including Bantva Manavader & Andaman Islands will also become one in future.
Bantva Manavader, was a princely state of British India. Founded in 1733, it became a British protectorate in 1818. On 25 September 1947, it acceded to the newly formed Pakistan. However, Indian forces entered the area on the grounds that the state was a vassal of the Junagadh state, which was itself a vassal of the Baroda state that had acceded to India. Subsequently, after a successful plebiscite, the state was absorbed into the Union of India on 15 February 1948.
Could we apply the same principle to the State of Kashmir, Hyderabad Dakkan?? Indian government will have to accept ONE of the two principles of what they think is the right way to move forward. Now if they want to behave like a adolescent child and talk like a slick hustler, is quite a picture.
Presidential order of 1972 was in the time of Z.A. Bhutto. The Dewan of Junagadh, Sir Shah Nawaz Bhutto, the father of the more famous Zulfikar Ali Bhutto.
