Condition of Khyber Pakhtonkuhawa is worse than Sindh, says Chief Justice.
Chief Justice of Pakistan Justice Saqib Nisar said on Tuesday that the condition of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa is worse than Sindh. The apex court under the CJP was hearing a case related to disposing hospital waste in the province. During the hearing, the CJP inquired about the amount of waste produced and the number of incinerators to dispose of it.The top judge also asked the method through which hospitals gather waste and then dispose it.
DG Health Commission told the court that government hospitals gather 173kg while private hospitals gather 63kg of waste. He further said that 27 private hospitals have incinerators installed.
“What have you done so far? This is your second tenure,” said the CJP to thehealth minister KP.Provincial health minister Inamullah Khan responded that he is as sincere to his work as the honourable judge is.
To which the CJP said that he values the sentiment, however, there is 3000kg of waste not being incinerated. While wrapping up the hearing, the court directed the provincial minister to present a report within 10 days as the matter is directly related to the health of the public
ISLAMABAD: Chief Justice of Pakistan (CJP) Mian Saqib Nisar on Wednesday expressed bewilderment over the government taking credit for enabling overseas Pakistanis to exercise the right to franchise for the first time in the country’s history.
Justice Nisar said it was the Supreme Court that granted the overseas Pakistanis the right to vote in the recently held by-elections “but credit is being taken by the PTI (Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaaf) government”.
The CJP expressed these views twice on a lighter note in two different cases.First, he spoke during the hearing of a case concerning non-availability of basic facilities in private hospitals. And then during the hearing of a suo motu case related to dual nationality of lawmakers, the chief justice told senior PTI leader Hamid Khan that the SC had given overseas Pakistanis the voting right but his government was taking credit for it.
In 1993, overseas Pakistanis were given the right to vote and it was made part of the Constitution. The expatriate community got their right to cast vote after 30 years of the promulgation of the 1973 Constitution.
The parliamentary committee on electoral reforms deliberated on this issue for five years since 2013 but could not reach a consensus on the issue of giving online voting right to overseas Pakistanis.
