It's a chance to develop a tangible industry that will help poor farmers and the country. But despite watching many videos on this, I don't think we have the organisational capabilities to build the supply chains and processing plants to be able take advantage of this natural resource. Just like the gold of Balochistan, we will hear a lot for the next 20 years but nothing more than a cottage industry will emerge.

KPK agriculture department should aim to graft all wild olive trees within next 2-3 years.Good variety of olives plants for grafting should be imported from Spain and Italy.Pakistan should have started experimenting/growing palm oil trees and tea 30 years ago.The coastal areas of Sindh and Balochistan may be suitable for palm trees where in the north of the country tea can be grown.Pakistan has done no work on improving the quantity or quality of bananas grown in Pakistan.New varieties must be introduced to compete with countries like Ecuador and Philippines. The global banana industry is worth more than $25 billion. If Pakistan can get a 2% market share it amounts to $500 million.

The chances of are that happening are zero. We have zero foresight, and the only thing shakes the politicians out of their coma is the prospect of making money.

now we should also focus on growing cotton so that our import bill of $2 billion every year could be reduced.
