ISLAMABAD: Pakistan’s ace martial art player, Saadi Abbas put up a dazzling performance to win gold in his 67kgs bout of the 10th Asian Karate Championship in China, beating South Korean player Kim Ju Won in gold medal fight, said a message received here on Saturday.
Saadi, also the winner of a gold medal in Commonwealth Championship, demonstrated brilliance and prowess to beat his respective opponents from Thailand, Saudi Arabia, Malaysia and Hong Kong to get a place in the final.
In all,526 players from 33 countries of Asia participated in the Championship.
Meanwhile a spokesman of Pakistan Karate Federation said that “It is a matter of great honour for Pakistan that any Pakistani Karate player demonstrated a higher level of game to win a gold medal in a Asian Championship”.
He said the PKF in collaboration with Pakistan Sports Board organized three weeks training camp in Iran and one month training camp in Peshawar to prepare its team to feature in the Asian Championship.
Prime Minister lauds Abbas’ gole medal
Prime Minister Syed Yusuf Raza Gilani Saturday extended his felicitations to Abbas on clinching the title of Asian Karate Championship and winning a gold medal for the country, and called him a true asset for the nation.
The Prime Minister in a message lauded the sportsmanship of Abbas for maintaining high professional fitness and confidence in facing the opponents. He expressed admiration on his fighting skills and defense postures which enabled him to win the title.
Gilani said that sportsman like Abbas were true assets for the nation as they represent the country at international events.
He prayed for continued success of the player in future endeavors.


Prior to this victory Saadi had also won gold at the Commonwealth Games.
