WASHINGTON, Feb 28: [HI]A Pakistani firm has invented a new formula to make fertilisers that cannot be converted into bomb-making materials, diplomatic sources told Dawn.

[/HI][HI]The firm, Fatima Group, has succeeded in making non-lethal alternatives to ammonium nitrate, a key ingredient in the fertilisers it makes.[/HI] Fertilisers with ammonium nitrate, however, can easily be converted into bomb-making ingredients.

[HI]“Such a long-term solution would be a true scientific breakthrough,” Lt-Gen Michael Barbero, the head of the Pentagon’s Joint Improved Explosive Device Defeat Organisation, said in a statement[/HI].

A US television network, CNN, reported on Thursday that the United States and Pakistan reached an agreement last week to make fertilisers with non-explosive materials. But diplomatic sources told Dawn that an agreement could only be reached after the new material is tested. The sources said that US experts would soon visit Pakistan for testing the new material with experts from the Fatima Group, Pakistan’s major fertiliser manufacturer.

Representatives of the group visited Washington last week and met senior officials from the Pentagon, the State Department and also some US lawmakers.

CNN reported that Gen Barbero met the group’s representatives while they were in Washington and urged them to take steps to control fertiliser inventories.

“The meeting itself was a step forward since the Pakistani government previously had stopped the US military from talking directly to the company,” CNN reported.

We are part of a globalized world, and Innovation is the source of differentiating products and creating a Unique selling point. I think we should encourage our firms to innovate and we should trade more with world. Furthermore, we should work on Joint ventures with US and China.

I firmly believe we should have strong ties with the US and the world at large.

Well, well, well...

Someone has started to try and use big words while also attempting to speak in a sophisticated manner (notice the use of words like "try" and "attempt").

Fatima fertilizer was the only industry in Pakistan to attempt to open a plant in the United States (while also assist them in creating 300-jobs in a terrible, recession-hit economy).

The use of the fertilizer in IEDs was previously a stumbling block and caused the Indiana senator to cancel the move (and rightly so, given their national interest).

However, this news may result in a change of attitude and hopefully, the first ever Pakistani-owned factory will be based in the United States and be a source of creating an international stature for the company while also helping Americans with their employment - this will boost Pakistani image in the middle class and result in creating a favourable position for other Pakistani businesses there - needless to say, it will help to counter the Indian influence there as the blue-collar elects presidents in America (given that they are the only ones that vote and the rich are too lazy, just like in Pakistan).

Secondly, Indians are looked at with suspicion and hate in this regard because their cheap IT labour and general acceptance of outsourcing jobs has shipped millions of American jobs overseas to India. The same is the case with the Chinese but China has invested and propped up the American economy far more significantly than vice versa. This has resulted in overall peace between the two great world powers due to their interlinked economies. Their friendship is the most important source of world stability.

Such an economic friendship with Pakistan will prove to remove suspicions and improve ties with America as well as those in the international community (given that America is its leader).

Americans will soon realize that friendship with Pakistan is not based on leeching America as they had thought but to create friendship, people-to-people contact and most importantly improve the lives of both citizens, not just Pakistan's citizens - this will be a huge drift from the past when only Pakistanis were seen getting aid and perceived as leeches - it's our turn to return the favour as their nephews (Uncle Sam joke).

In the disasters hitting the East Coast, CHIPPA and Edhi was willing to and probably also provided aid (but would need confirmation on this from someone).

God Bless America-Pakistan friendship! (God damn Iran)
