Lahore waste management company to help make Amritsar clean

AMRITSAR: After having failed to successfully run its much hyped solid waste management (SWM) project, the Amritsar Municipal Corporation has now sought help from Lahore Waste Management Company to make the holy city clean.

"We are here to share our experiences with officials of municipal corporations of Punjab and explain how we have been successful in running SWM project in Lahore" said the general manager, Lahore Waste Management Company Wasim Azmal while talking to TOI on Monday.

Wasim along with the general manager and manger of company Khalid Mazid and Asif Iqbal respectively had arrived in India to share their experiences and guide MC officials on SWM project. He said Turkish companies had invested more than 80 million dollars in Lahore and have brought in special vehicles, washers and other specialized machinery for collecting and disposal of waste.

"A similar pattern can be launched here also" said he. Wasim said that the Turkish companies had created a state of art waste disposal facility for the recycling of the waste and its conversion into energy. He informed that the company had given a presentation to the deputy CM of Punjab Sukhbir Singh Badal during his visit to Pakistan wherein Sukhbir had shown keen interest in the SWM project.

Following visit a high powered delegation including officials of local body, urban development and municipal commissioners of Bathinda and Ludhiana had visited Lahore.

"Ours is a follow up visit where we will share our experiences of the project and would also try to gain knowledge of running municipal affairs from Indian Municipal Corporation officials" he said. Amritsar Municipal Corporation had signed a MoU with a Mumbai based company for the disposal of waste but the project failed to run successfully.

About the fund scarcity and lack of staff strength among most of the municipal corporations in Punjab, Wasim said, "We also have similar problems, but there is a solution, funds can be raised as had happened in Lahore".

He said the delegates would be visiting Ludhiana, Jalandhar and Chandigarh besides Amritsar

Garbage heaps exist all over asia ...BUT the question is what have cities done with regards to dealing with that garbage. In India amritsar and other cities had awarded a contract to a maharashtra based company and as usual the corrupt company didnt help with the garbage situation just like so much other corruption that exists down there, so the GOVERNMENT of Amristar has INVITED the Pakistanis to come and show them how to clean a CITY [hilar][hilar][hilar]

Did your mommy tell you the difference between aid and investment?

They will get their money back in the bus project and waste management because its a private investment. There is no comparison between Lahore and any Indian city.

Karachi was the city that Seoul copied. Because of ethnic bigotry and sectarianism fuelled by India and Zardari, the development there was also halted - it will be competing with regional ports like Dubai, Doha and Manama now that Musharraf is back and developments will continue.

Mumbai, the most polluted (noise, too) and the city of squatters, which is so crowded that it seems like there is a procession or a festival, is not on the list, as it far surpasses them all in livability. You can't live in any Indian city because there's no room to (including the streets and parks, where there are homes of millions - Pakistan should help Indians address this, too).

PS. As expected, you couldn't find answers to the Tamilian demands of having local police instead of the colonizing North Indian Brahmins that indulge in brutality and humiliation of the indigenous Tamils.

Also, you didn't answer why developments in the Sethusamudram were being halted due to the religious beliefs of those who don't live there, and against the interests of those who don't believe in the Ramayana. And, neither did you address general discrimination faced by the Tamils, worse than what the world saw happen under Genghis Khan's rule.

I am only stating the obvious - even your government can't answer it - thus, the need for the Tamilians to experience what Pakistan experienced, in '47, diplomatically and politically, no different than MLK Jr. and Mandela (no Gandhi on the list as he was a Vaishnavite extremist and only served their interests).
