The first quarter of the 2019-2020 fiscal year began on a depressing note for the auto sector, while car sales declined by 42 pc.

Suzuki Motors was hit worst as its sales plunged by 70pc in the first quarter of the current fiscal year. It was followed by Honda and Toyota with a decline of 65% and 60% respectively. The main factor behind the decline in car sales is a 46% increase in car prices in a year and a half.

The first month of 2019-20 started off on a depressing note for the auto sector with 23 percent and 42 percent declines in car production and sales respectively to 16,472 and 10,968 units. Likewise, imports of used cars also plummeted massively. In the first quarter of FY 2019-20, as many as 22000 used cars were imported. During the same period in the previous fiscal year, the numbers stood at 82000 units.............

Pakistan auto industry is also the most protected industry in the country with 300% duty on imported cars even though Pakistan doesn't make its own cars. In-spite of this protection, no car maker has started manufacturing cars inside pakistan in the last 70 years. Additionally the quality of pakistani assembled cars is a shadow of the quality produced by these car makers abroad. Hence, many pakistanis prefer to drive a used and even accident-ed Japanese made car over the brand new but low quality pakistani cars.

Decades of protectionist policies have made local car makers complacent and instead of innovating and improving these car companies restored to selling teen daba and outdated cars for millions.

Auto parts and auto-mobile industry is the biggest theives in Pakistan.
I used to work in Pak CUSTOMS in Karachi, just go and see the living style of customs clerks, PO and AP etc.
All brand new parts, cars declared as scrap, afghan transit or lowest tax goods.
They pay no-taxes, no import tax, no customs, no sales tax and most of all no-Income tax.
