I think we need to wake up to world reality and challenge our own wrong beliefs and practices in the name of quran and islam.

We should not put our islam into the quran rather we should take islam in the quran on to ourselves.

If we did that we all will end up with same beliefs and same practices after discusing things with each other.

So long as we stay away from doing this we will remain as we are.

Dr Zakir also is changing his mind and that is a good thing and shows that he is a thinking person. A thinking person is always affected by increase in his information just like a judge changes his decision when new evidence comes to light.

Death penalty for apostasy is part of islamic fiqh though based on mistaken idea of shariah and was always oposed by some scholars but most always supported it.

Freedom of thought and expression in matters of beliefs is fundamental in islam but it has been suppressed for obvious reasons.

The main thing one needs to think about is that one cannot control one's own mind so if one does not believe in islam then merely by putting gun to one's head we cannot force one to be a faithful muslims. Infact this way we are creating an enemy who will be with us outwardly but against us inwardly. This means we are enemies of own selves.

It is better to throw out the bad apple than let it ruin the rest of them. If one is free to express oneself then at least we know who is with us and who is not.
