No GST imposed on food items, AG tells SC

ISLAMABAD: Attorney General of Pakistan, Munir A Malik told the Supreme Court on Wednesday that sales tax was not imposed on milk, eggs, fish, fruits and other food items.

He said that action would be taken against those found receiving GST on food items. The AG also produced the government directives in the apex court, stating that the GST was not imposed on food items.

A three-judge bench of the apex court headed by Chief Justice Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhry was hearing a case pertaining to hike in petroleum prices and sales tax.

During the course of hearing the CJ remarked that even the President of Pakistan was not authorized to impose tax. He added that only the parliament was authorized to impose taxes.

As per existing law of land these commodities are exempted from GST. But certain fools to make score raised this issue unnecessary. Government has further elaborated issue for illiterate. Good job done and keep it up!

O meray pakistan k boht he siyane logo! jb petrol prices barrhay ge Shopkeeper & Traders ko eik chez mehngi parrey ge to wo awam ko kyon sasti dy ga apni jaeb se kharch kar k. Hajion py 5000 tax lagaya hy kehtay haien hajion py nahen hy bal k haj tour operators py hy wah g wah tour operator apni jaeb sy dy ga ya bill mein haj tax mention kar k haji sy ly ga? my advice to all pmLN supporter is that simply compare the prices of these items before budget & after budget u will be able to get ur facts clean & right.
