ISLAMABAD: The President House alone is dealing with the affairs of former president Pervez Musharraf and looking after the facilities being provided to him by the government. An informal cell, which works directly under the instructions of President Zardari, has been entrusted with the task to safeguard the interests of the former president.
Well placed sources told The News here on Friday that the cell, being headed by a close associate of the president, had evolved a system of monitoring the events related to the former president and chalked out the strategy in the light of the instructions from the high ups. All this was done according to the broader understanding reached when the retired general was shown the door one year ago.
The sources pointed out that the cell did not seek instructions from the Army since it did not give any word about the former president. The sources said that the PML-N was in the knowledge of the support that the former president was getting from his successor but it was keeping quiet in view of the precarious situation in the country. The top leadership of the PML-N had time to time complained about the patronage the former president was getting form the Presidential Palace. The protest had fallen on the deaf ears.
Meanwhile, former president has stopped giving political statements about the situation in Pakistan and his past role. Pervez Musharraf called his former Principal Secretary Tariq Aziz to London to have consultations about the developments with regard to his future. Tariq Aziz is stated to be co-author of the notorious National Reconciliation Ordinance (NRO). Pervez Musharrafs security chief Major (retd) Sheharyar told this scribe from London Friday evening that the former president did not make up his mind to return in a month or so.
