KARACHI: A slew of gun attacks and sporadic incidents of violence claimed 11 more lives in the provincial metropolis on Sunday.

The victims were affiliated with two political groups the Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM) and the Muhajir Qaumi Movement-Haqiqi (MQM-H).The killings have set the stage for a showdown ahead of the imminent release of MQM-Haqiqi leaders Afaq Ahmed and Amir Khan.

The MQM-Haqiqi claimed that nine of its activists had fallen victim to the target killings, while the Muttahida said two of its workers had been gunned down.Sundays killings raised the death toll to 29 during the past three to four days on either side.

Gunmen barged into the house of MQM-Haqiqi Lawyers Wing chief Salim Knight, 47, and shot him dead while injuring his wife, Farida, and daughter Sehrish in Jamshed Quarters late on Saturday night.

Two bodies were found in the jurisdiction of the Khokhrapar police station. One of them was identified as Jamil, 40, an MQM-Haqiqi activist. Amir Khans chief security officer Zeeshan, along with his mother, Nasima, was injured, while his brother, Noman, was killed in Malir when armed men attacked the taxi they were travelling in.

MQM-Haqiqi Buzurg Committee member Abdul Jabbar was shot dead in Korangi, while Hassan Ali was killed near the Azimpura graveyard. Shahzad alias Manoo was shot dead in Landhi by two armed men on his fruit stall. Nasim Ahmed was killed, while his wife Saima was critically injured in an attack in Saudabad.

In Bilal Colony, Shakeel was killed and Imran was injured. Both were activists of the MQM-Haqiqi and lived in Liaquatabad. Both the victims had torture marks on their bodies. Another MQM-Haqiqi activist, 20-year-old Zahid Elahi, fell victim to the vicious cycle of the target killings in Awami Colony.

On the other hand, the Muttahida Qaumi Movement claimed that two of its workers had been killed during the last 24 hours. Nadeem, 30, was shot dead in Awami Colony, while Faqir Muhammad was killed in the Eidgah police limits.

Razaullah, who died along with Faqir Muhammad, was not affiliated with any political party. Capital City Police Officer (CCPO) Wasim Ahmed termed the target killings infighting between the political parties. He said it could only be controlled through the intervention of the top political leadership. Moreover, he said, the parties must play their role in maintaining peace in the city.

APP adds: President Asif Zardari on Sunday strongly condemned the Karachi killings. Expressing his shock and grief, the president ordered an immediate inquiry into the incidents.He said the situation of the country demanded that the people belonging to all schools of thought and political parties acted in harmony to preserve peace in the country.

Six activists belonging to the Mohajir Qaumi Movement-Haqiqi (MQM-H) and the Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM) were killed on Monday in separate incidents in the city.

In the recent spate of target killings, unidentified people attacked the residence of Bilawal House Chief Security Officer Bilal Sheikh, in Gulbahar, in which three people were killed and Sheikhs security officer was injured.

Sources said that due to the continuous spate of target killings, Rangers personnel had been given the affected areas of East Zone which includes Shah Faisal Colony, Korangi, Khokharapar, Landhi, Saudabad, and Malir. There were also reports that the Sindh Rangers personnel had constructed check posts in these localities and were operating with the coordination of local police.

Abdul Naeem, 35-year-old Basheer (alias Sheera), and 11-year-old Alam were shot dead, while Irfan Commando, a security guard of Bilal Sheikh, was shot at and injured in the Gulbahar police limits.

Police sources said that on Monday afternoon five armed men riding motorcycles attacked Bilal Sheikhs residence in Khamosh Colony and resorted to indiscriminate firing.

Due to the continuous firing, Abdul Naeem, an activist of MQM-H was killed, while Basheer, Alam, and Irfan were injured. The criminals fled the scene and passerby and supporters shifted the dead and injured to the Abbasi Shaheed hospital, where Basheer and Alam were pronounced dead, while Irfan was referred to the Aga Khan University Hospital.

During inquiry, it was found that Abdul Naeem was an activist of MQM-H and a resident of Nazimabad, while Basheer was a resident of Pak Colony and was a juice vendor running his stall in Khamosh Colony. Alam was standing at Basheers stall when he fell victim to the firing. Furthermore, Irfan is an ex-activist of the MQM-H and is presently working for the Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP).

In another case, Saifullah Haq Siddiqi was shot dead by armed men in the Shamim Shaheed police limits.

Police sources said that Siddiqi was a resident of Gol Market and an employee of the City District Government Karachi (CDGK).

During investigation it was found that Siddiqi went to offer Fajr prayers when armed men riding a motorcycle shot and killed him, and fled. The deceased was an activist of MQM-H. A case was registered at the police station.

Twenty-five-year-old Amir Zaib, an activist of the MQM-H, was shot dead by armed men in the Landhi police limits. The police said that the victim was a resident of Landhi 37-D, and went out to Babar Market, when armed motorcycle riders opened indiscriminate fire, killing Zaib on the spot, and fled. The deceased was an activist of the MQM-H and came to the area to celebrate June 19 which was the Foundation Day of the MQM-H. A case was reported at the police station.

In yet another case, 45-year-old Fahimuddin was shot dead by armed men in the Liaquatabad police limits. The police said that the deceased was the resident of Sikandarabad. On Monday morning he was heading home on his motorcycle, when armed men opened indiscriminate fire at him was near Sajid Decoration, Liaquatabad No-6. Fahim died on the spot, and his attackers fled.

Forty-four-year-old Khwaja Sibtain Raza, an activist of the MQM was shot dead by armed men in the Jauharabad police limits. Police sources said that the deceased was a resident of Block-9, F.B. Area. On Monday afternoon he went outdoors for some work.

When was near Wahaj hospital, two armed men riding a motorcycle shot and killed him and fled. The deceased was a member of MQM Buzurg committee. A case was registered at the police station.

In 1993 Election Altaf Hussain did not take part and MQM-H had free hand under army operation against Altaf Hussain. Haqqiqi did not take a single seat. ....Yes , hater of Altaf Hussain and MQM want that SINDH URBEN should not develop.

Even, in Army operation, all the parties of the Pakistan were not able to wash out MQM from the hearts of people. Even Nawaz tried GOVERNOR RULE, in SIND, but all effort was in vain. Parties who don't have political stake in Karachi, have been trying to disturb Karachi. Nothing new about it.

(1) Isn't strange, despite that, NAWAZ & BENAZIR came to NINE ZERO, to get support from MQM. Even recently, PPP came. Khadim-e-Aala Punjab met governor, before long March. And in future, God knows, how many will come to get support. Even our beloved MMA came to 90 after 2002 general election.

(2) Ask those, who created them. Like many Tanga parties, they are also welcome.

He thinks that MQM-H were funded by Nawaz Sharif in 1992 when they came to conquer Karachi by sitting on Army tanks. Still dreaming dear. When MQM was unofficially banned for his poltical activity, during army operation, even then Jammat-e-Islami and other were not able to do anything, despite open field. But, I must say, Jamaat-e-Islami took good decision, not to take part in election. Otherwise, no difference in number of seats in NATIONAL AND PROVINCIAL.
