Siemens AG (SIE) plans to give up its unprofitable solar-energy business after failing to turn the unit around, in a blow to the German engineering company’s effort to win more revenue from its so-called green portfolio.

What you are seeing here is what I call "kick-back" economics. Overpricing and subsidizing will be the mantra. So those who are proud of this development should look in the mirror and be able to see the core of Pakistani problems.

Germany has 50% subsidy on energy produced from solar so that the industry can keep up with energy from other sources. We are decades from having technology that can produce energy from the sun in a more efficient way so that its per unit cost is at-least nearer to that of petroleum.
