I was thinking the same thing, how is this sudden explosion in Italy possible. I think outside of China Italy has the highest number overtaking S.Korea, not sure though!

Italy has the highest number of older people in the world and this is reflecting. I was in Ital9drivingy about 10 days ago and crossed from north to the south. I crossed the border from Austria and noticed not many cars were entring into Italy but on the other hand there were a lot of cars getting out of Italy. When I was started to go north, I noticed so many cars were heading south coming from the affected areas and I was thinking that they are really spreading the virus.
