The Iranian Defense Ministry has announced plans to unveil the next generation of its long-range cruise missiles later in the month.
The deputy head of the Industry and Research Institute of the Iranian Defense Ministry, Mohammad Eslami, said the projectiles are to be unveiled on August 22 on the occasion of the national Day of Defense Industry, ISNA reported on Saturday.
The [new] missile has a longer reach compared to previous cruise missiles, Eslami added.
With accurate programming, these missiles can target the enemy quickly and with the speed of lightning, he further said.
In recent years, Iran has made great achievements in its defense sector and attained self-sufficiency in producing essential military equipment and systems.
In January, Iran's Defense Ministry delivered new cruise missile systems to the Navy capable of spotting and destroying different targets at sea.
In early May, the Deputy Commander of Iran's Air Force, Gen. Mohammad Alavi, said the country has mass-produced and test-fired new cruise missiles, which can likewise be used against naval targets.
Iran has repeatedly assured that its military might poses no threat to other countries, saying its defense doctrine is based on deterrence.
