Norway is high cost and low population density market, which is why it will be difficult to achieve any economy of scale there. Profit margins in consumer goods retail are small.

This is probably why no low cost retailer would be much interested in it.
Price was never the problem but competition and quality of products. Lidl offered nothing better than what was already available in other super markets. Only immigrants liked to shop and work in Lidl. Ethnic Norwegians stayed away from this German bullshit

Interesting, whats the source of the data in this article? Hard to believe that Norway is a country with highest number of stores per capita.

As for ethnic Norwegians staying away from Lidl, that’s not surprising because the higher up you are on socio-economic strata, the more conscious you are abt the perception. Migrants being poorer would obviously look for better value for money.

Having said that, in my observation the newer Aldi stores in UK are more contemporary, well designed, better variety and bigger in size and are giving local uk supermarkets a good run for their money.
