Lidl came to Norway too a decade ago. Shit crap quality products. We kicked them out Khoti Germans Harami

they save on marketing and provide cheapest prices on restricted number of things

Their 'special buys' are excellent too.

It took sometime for Aldi and Lidl to establish themselves.People were not keen on shopping at these stores. This could be due to poor perceptions.I only buy selected items from these stores. There is no problem with quality of the items I buy.UK has M&S & Waitrose so people are free to buy their food from these store. The quality is much better. In central London the food halls of Selfridges,Harrods and Fortunum &Mason are excellent.

Crap quality?

I don’t think so, which is why Aldi and Lidl are a big success in many countries including UK and US. In a huge and competitive market like the US, Aldi is probably the only european supermarket that’s able to compete with the local chains.

I ve always found their stuff to be decent quality and good value for money.

Norway is high cost and low population density market, which is why it will be difficult to achieve any economy of scale there. Profit margins in consumer goods retail are small.

This is probably why no low cost retailer would be much interested in it.

German products are known world over for their quality. Ppl pay a price premium for just ‘made in Germany’ tag.

Having said that you cant just walk into a discount retailer, willing to spend pennies and expect a premium product.

So not sure what you are on about.

It doesn't matter. ALDI and LIDL are German, NETTO is Danish, REMA1000 is Norwegian, Coop and Fakta are Swedish. They all are doing business. It's a good competition which gives benefit to the customers.

Coop is British (atleast the one that operates in the UK).

Rema and Fakta, never seen them in quite a few european countries that i ve been to. May be these only exist in scandinavia.
