Islamabad: Prime Minister (PM) adviser on finance and revenue Dr Hafeez Shaikh said on Wednesday that PKR 580 billion in revenues were effectively obtained by the state against the goal of PKR 644 billion, said in a news.
During a press conference in Islamabad, he articulated his opinions on the subject. The meeting was attended by Federal Minister of Planning and Reforms Khusro Bakhtiar, Federal Minister of Energy Omar Ayyub, Minister Economic Affairs Hammad Azhar, PM Advisor Razak Dawood, PM Special Assistant Nadeem Babar and the Chairman of the Federal Revenue Board (FBR) Shabbar Zaidi.
Dr Shaikh said that the economy has started going in a favorable path since the government has reached a balance on external accounts in the past year.He added that significant growth had been achieved in exports, which increased to $2.23 billion this year from $2.01 billion in the first two months of last year and imports deteriorated from $5 billion to $4.1 billion. This implies that the country's total current-account deficit has declined by 7.3%, he added.
He said that in the first two months of the past year the revenue collection from Rs509 billion to Rs580 billion had increased in the present year, which showed a 25% increase. In addition, he articulated the expectation that for the financial year the state would attain the 2.4% growth target.
