Google is preparing to conquer a new dimension: the stratosphere. The Internet giant is releasing 30 high-tech balloons in a trial of technology designed to bring the Internet to places where people are not yet connected.

The balloons are being sent up into the sky from New Zealand's South Island this month in the first trial of a pioneering system dubbed Project Loon.
According to Google, "Project Loon is a network of balloons traveling on the edge of space, designed to connect people in rural and remote areas, help fill coverage gaps, and bring people back online after disasters.

"
Google estimates that two-thirds of the global population is without fast, affordable Internet access. So while it sounds like something from the realms of science fiction, if successful, the project could make a difference to many people around the world.

Thats what is their official statement.....I am wondering about the actual reason behind it.
US is trying to maintain their superiority among other countries.

Superiority can only be shown or presented unless you are capable of it ....

Chalo ji..... ghubaaray se kiya hoga.....

Those who can, do; those who can't... ;p

----

This is for New Zealand.

NZ was struck by three devastating earthquakes in 2010-2011. The city of ChristChurch is mostly rubble.

The people need internet, so what google does is that they provide them with a special antenna (a bit like old times tv antenna, except it has a big red ball at it's end) at home, which connects with this flying balloon.

The Balloon has a solar panel, and a router, and effectively is flying mobile tower. It provides 3G-like service.

It's not supposed to be a "permanent" solution, but when you have heavy infrastructure problems, and you can't lay down cable, you can use this!

Amazing Google Tech.

----

A secondary idea is to use it remote locations where it's not feasible to set up Cellphone towers, like remote areas. So for example, in a remote village in kenya, you could have this roaming tower, and it will provide *some* internet, which is better than *nothing*

(oh, btw, even Kenya has 3G, and we don't...sigh...)

----

Imagine if we have another natural disaster, we could use this so that relief teams could connect with main base and better utilise resources like doctors, medicines, supplies etc.
