KARACHI: Geological experts have expressed their fears about a huge tsunami to hit the coastal areas Sindh and Balochistan including Karachi and Gwadar, earlier to this a tsunami had caused havoc in these areas in 1945 - ARY News reports.
Experts have told that these calm sea waves colliding with 1050 km of coastal line of Pakistan can rise and acquire the shape of a tsunami anytime and can cost millions of human lives. A recent research has also repeated this possible outcome.
According to details, Professor Dr Deen Muhammad Kakar of Balochistan University visited the coastal areas of the Arabian Sea and Indian Ocean with a team of UNESCO. Dr Deen Muhammad and the UNESCO team met some of the people who had observed the devastation caused due to a tsunami that hit the coastal line of India on November 28, 1945.
After gathering all the facts about the 1945 tsunami and assessing on the basis of these details, Geologists have said that the past experiences and the presence of Makran subduction under the sea comprising of 900 km can cause another human disaster in Sindh and Balochistan.
Cities like Karachi and Gwadar located at the coastal line of Pakistan hold a vital significance on commercial basis, while Mauripur is also considered to be important from defence point of view. However, no strategy has been formed so far to deal with possible tsunami.
