Everyone must learn to code

I am a Computer Programmer and I believe anyone can learn programming.
I agree with Steve Jobs. All the world will come into smart phone in the near future and to survive one must learn to code.
Would love to know your opinion .
I agree with that, as we enter the age of artificial intelligence, we will have the machine do everything for us and to enable machines to do tasks, programming is vital, machine learning is the future and people with coding knowledge will be high in demand

Well language are becoming easier to code as well. Majority of complex functions are handeled by them anyways. Python has really revolutionized the land scape

I was thinking to start block programming with my 10 year old niece . Many schools in EU are teaching algorithm in one way or other to kids. I think next generation will likely to program in big numbers

I think machine learning does have an exciting future but you need to keep in mind the privacy aspect. At this moment majority of people don't realize they are the product themselves which is fed to machine learning algos. I am.worried if we don't change or enlighten people very soon we will have no.private life , especially if these services get compromised

AI and Big Data is the future.

Also, learning how to code is important but what's more imortant is being creative and having the ability to solve real problems.

Thats because you started with a boring and relatively difficult language. Should have started with VB.
Meh coding is boring and not for me. Was good I didn't enjoy it. I went on to do music production, audio engineering and video editing. Much more satisfying creatively, than sitting for hours typing in lines of code.

Why should everyone learn to code - Its plain stupid. No one will need to code in the future. That's what AI and machine learning is - It obviates the need for humans to code. Jobs as coders and low level technicians will soon become extinct. We are entering into an era where creative thinking and ideas will be much more important as how to do things will become easier and easier.

It gets boring and at some point you start to question the purpose of ur life. Good thing I learned both (operations and development) and was lucky to find a job where i could do both. Kept me sane.....

Lol but what will ideas do without coding? Machines mean coding, visuals means coding, analysis means coding, management means coding, security means coding

Where did you get that? Coding means converting something a human can understand into something a computer can understand. Compilers have always done it in a way by converting source code to 1's and 0's that a computer can understand. This abstraction is moving to a higher level with programming languages like Python. Soon computers will be able to 'understand' humans and thus the need for an intermediary i.e coder will not be there. We already see this happening whereby people can use technology without understanding what goes on in the black box. Its called the power of abstraction.

I learned how to code in college (self taught) - assembly, c++, php, delphi and then decided to study computer science in University. The university was so crappy and against education, i didn't learn anything new that i didn't know except some basic java, vb and c#. Really regretted wasting my time there when i had more fun learning all this online by myself.

Khair, got a degree in computer science. Realized the crappy job prospects and the mehnat mushaqat required for programming with low pay. Had interest in biology in school, decided to pursue microbiology in university.

Almost done with my degree. I absolutely love microbiology and has nothing boring about it except being a little dangerous cause you play with scary bugs.

I don't think everyone needs to learn programming unless your life revolves around computers and you do advanced level stuff with it. For majority of people, just knowledge of computers is a must but that's pretty much it.

I didn't watch the video honestly so maybe they have a point. But based on my life experiences, i don't think it's necessary. My programming knowledge hasn't served me anything except with running sites (linix administration was relatively easy to learn given my past knowledge) but not everyone else is running sites and i still hire coders to do stuff because i am too lazy/busy to do the work myself.

As for AI, i think people have too much hope with it. Sure, it will change our life a lot but it's not going to be anything like they show in movies. The amount of intelligence required for that is absolutely insane and only humans are gifted with it. We will see a lot of dumb robots though doing what they're programmed to do ie clean up, drive, follow algorithms but human like intelligence? Nah.
