CORONAVIRUS- UK- 100,000 tests a day Target reached
The UK claimed to provide more than 122,000 corona-virus tests at the end of April, which surpasses the UK government’s target, Health Secretary Matt Hancock said in a press briefing.
He added that the target set was “audacious” but testing wasimperative to get Britain “ back on her feet”
The quoted figure includes the 40,000 tests sent out directly to people’s homes, which may not yet have been taken.
This is a much-needed effort as the official Britain’s COVID-19 dead toll rises to 27,510 which experts deem not reach the peak for months.
The true UK death toll however far exceeds the hospital toll as people have also died in nursing homes and in the wider community, broader data showed on Tuesday.
The official British death toll is the fifth-highest globally after the United States, Italy, Spain and France. Scientists and opposition leaders have said they fear the United Kingdom could be the worst-hit country in Europe.
