"Both the frequency of the attacks and their intensity has increased in the past few years," Rev. Vijayesh Lal, general secretary of the EFI and the national director of the RLC, told Morning Star News.

Hindu villagers in Kohkameta, Chhattisgarh state, set upon a group of Christians as they gathered together for their Sunday worship service on 25 October, beating some until they were unconscious and forcing others to sign legal documents converting them to Hinduism, according to a report by World Watch Monitor.
“There were 35 people in the church,” recounts one of the Christians there that day. “While the prayer service was going on, some young boys and villagers came with sticks and began to beat the believers. They dragged them out and beat them mercilessly,” he said.
The pastor, 31-year-old Mehtu Karma, was beaten on the head until he was unconscious, blood pouring from his ear.
The villagers brought affidavits for the Christians to sign, beating them until they did so. The documents state that the signatory has converted to Hinduism and will no longer participate in Christian activities – to do so could result in arrest.
“They forced the believers to sign it,” said the eyewitness. “When a believer refused, villagers began to beat them again.”
The Christians reported the incident to the police, despite the fact that villagers threatened that if they did so, they would burn down their houses, bar them from the village, or kill them. According to World Watch Monitor, the Hindu villagers also filed a false complaint with the police, alleging that the Christians had beaten them and thrown away their Hindu gods and goddesses from their homes.
Even in hospital, the wounded Christians were threatened. “If you don’t take back your report from the police, we will kill you,” they said. Others were forced to sign the documents from their hospital beds, although many of them are illiterate.
Not content with the signed documents, five of the Christians were dragged to the Hindu temple to undergo Hindu initiation rites.
