Are we truly believers or just surrenders to customary proclamation of faith?
Surah Al-Hujuraat
49:14. The bedouins say: "We believe." Say: "You believe not but you only say, 'We have surrendered (in Islam),' for Faith has not yet entered your hearts. But if you obey Allah and His Messenger (), He will not decrease anything in reward for your deeds. Verily, Allah is Oft-Forgiving, Most Merciful."
A true belief entails action and action must be within the permissible limits set by Allah. Limits which can not be violated and stipulate absolute surrender to the Creator.
Contemporary Muslims often engage in debates squabbling practice is free choice even in public life while conservatives argue there is no choice but to take all rulings of the religion and completely surrender to the Commandments of Allah. So called modern and enlightened proclaim faith often referring to Surah Al-Baqarah 2:256 quoting There is no compulsion in religion.
Surah Al-Baqarah
2:256. There is no compulsion in religion. Verily, the Right Path has become distinct from the wrong path. Whoever disbelieves in Taghut and believes in Allah, then he has grasped the most trustworthy handhold that will never break. And Allah is All-Hearer, All-Knower.
However, they conveniently overlook directive of Surah Al-Ahzab 33:36 to unconditionally and completely surrender to Allah and Messenger (pbuh).
Surah Al-Ahzab
33:36. It is not for a believer, man or woman, when Allah and His Messenger have decreed a matter that they should have any option in their decision. And whoever disobeys Allah and His Messenger, he has indeed strayed in a plain error.
This debate of picking and choosing ruling of Allah randomly according to personal convenience and individual preference is generally based on inadequate and poor understanding of the Book of Allah. There is a propensity and penchant to vices along side a desire to claim righteousness on personal terms and provisos, a symptom and indication of deep rooted spiritual malady where faith is proclaimed but surrender to Allah remains elusive.
Are we believers or we have merely surrendered?
