We got lucky this time that gigantic asteroid has passed by our planet...next time, there will be no luck. But the question is how the heck does something that big gets so little media attention?

Asteroid (285263) 1998 QE2 passed by earth on yesterday May 31st 2013 at 14-15 Lunar distances. It was a massive 2.7 Kilometres wide (1.7 Miles).
