1 year old baby girl hit by pellets in fathers lap inside her ‪‎home‬
CRPF trooper attempted to molest her fathers cousin

SRINAGAR: At least six members of a family were hit by pellets in Awra village of north Kashmirs Kupwara district by government forces on Tuesday afternoon, among them two women and 1-year-old baby.

Four of the membes are being treated at districat hospital Kupwara and two are undergoing specialized treatment at the SMHS Hospital in Srinagar.

One of the members, Nazir Ahmad Dar, 32, a government employee, has been admitted to the Ward 18 of the Ophthalmology department of this hospital. A doctor who attended to him said Nazir has multiple pellet injuries in the face, neck, head, chest, back, arms and tongue.

Luckily not a single pellet has hit eyes, he said.

Nazir said, After having our lunch I went for a nap along with my one-year-old daughter. At around 430 pm, CRPF as well as police entered our village and were searching for youths who were protesting peacefully in nearby areas. They broke windowpanes of all houses in the locality and then entered the homes, ours too.

They (CRPF) entered my room and before I could say anything they fired from the gun. The pellets also hit my daughters back whom I was carrying in my lap, Nazir said.

I do not remember anything what happened after that, he says.At hospital, after regaining consciousnes, he came to know about the injuries to his father, mother, wife and his 18-year-old cousin Parveena who is also undergoing treatment in Srinagar.

Parveena, admitted to the Ward No 7 of ophthalmology department in the hospital, has suffered serious injury in an eye.

It was all normal till 2 in the afternoon but after that police as well as CRPF personnel started ransacking the houses and beat up the inmates. At that time I was washing dishes in a nearby stream when CRPF man hit me with baton on my shoulder, then he unzipped his pants. I ran towards my uncles house, she told Kashmir Reader. I somehow managed to flee from the spot and joined a nearby protest rally in order to save myself from the CRPF personnel, recalls Parveena, tears trickling down her face.

But as soon as I reached there forces started firing pellets into the peaceful procession, she said.
Doctors said she has pellet injuries in right eye, skull, left nasal bone.

Her left eye is OK but we are treating the right eye which has suffered partial damage. Hopefully, her vision will not be affected much, a doctor attending Parveena said.

Hit by a bullet in his abdomen on Thursday evening, 40-year-old Abdur Rehman writhes in pain at Post-Anesthesia Care Unit (a critical-care ward) of general specialty SMHS Hospital here.
The bullet has made perforation at more than seven spots in his stomach and intestines, according to doctors treating him. Rehman is a farmer by profession and hails from Tangmarg area of north Kashmirs Baramulla district.
According to doctors, his injury necessitated a life-saving surgery that was performed on him during midnight.
Will I be able to work? Rehman, who has no other source of income, asks a doctor, as the concern about the future of his three minor daughters weighs heavily on his mind.
Ameena, his sister, who attends to him at the hospital, says she has left her own family alone to accompany him. His wife could not have come. They have a one-year-old daughter, she says, recalling how her brother had a close shave with death.
Rehmans family members say he was working in his fields when a bullet hit him.
There were protests in a nearby place. Suddenly, a bullet hit him, a male attendant of Rehman said.
On way to the SMHS Hospital, after getting the first-aid at Sub-District Hospital Tangmarg, Rehman lost almost all blood.
Although he was talking, his blood drenched bandages and his clothes filled the ambulance. We thought we had lost him, Ameena said, as tears rolled down her face.
His medical file states that 1.5 litre blood was drained from his abdominal cavity. It gives a detailed account of the injuries the bullet had caused in his abdomen. Two perforations in stomach, two perforations in jejunum, multiple perforations in ileum, tear in mesocolon, hematoma near hilum of spleen, tear in retro-peritonium the file reads.
We had to do an extensive surgery on him. The injuries were extensive, a doctor treating him said.
On his hospital bed, Abdur Rehman looks drearily at the doctors who have no answer to the question he repeats: Will I be able to work?
I have no one who can take care of my family and me. I have no one, he says and stares blankly at the ceiling.
His sister said her brothers sole income was his small paddy farm. He has three daughters. The eldest one is 15-year-old, she said.
Back home, his wife has not been informed about what happened to Abdul Rehman in the hospital. She might have already collapsed due to worry but what can we do, Ameena said. Whose phone should we try to contact his wife. Almost all phones of our relatives and neighbors are not working since last night as govt has banned the mobile phone service again.

[h=1]Govt snaps mobile phone service again[/h]

Representational PicAuthorities last night snapped mobile phone service in Kashmir once again, causing immense inconvenience to thousands of subscribers. Only state-run BSNL postpaid numbers and landlines are presently working while outgoing call facility of BSNL pre-paid numbers stands barred.

Earlier, the service was suspended after massive protests erupted against the killing of Hizbul Mujahideen commander Burhan Wani on July 8. The cell phone service was again abruptly snapped at around 11.30 pm last night, causing inconvenience to subscribers in Kashmir where curfew remained in place for the 35th consecutive day on Friday.
The authorities had snapped mobile internet facility in entire Kashmir on July 9, day after Burhans killing. While the postpaid services of private companies were restored on July 26, the incoming call facility on prepaid numbers was restored a day later. However, the outgoing facility on prepaid numbers continued to remain barred. Mobile internet also continued to remain snapped for the 35th straight day on Friday.

Cellular services, except BSNL postpaid, were first snapped in district Srinagar on July 15 in the aftermath of widespread protests across Kashmir. The facility was snapped in south Kashmir on July 8 itself.

A group of postpaid subscribers of private companies expressed resentment against the snapping of services time and gain. Companies are asking us to pay monthly bills despite the service remaining suspended for the month. We strongly oppose the governments move of snapping the mobile service again and again, they said.
They alleged that companies were shooting them bills, showing add-on charges like internet packs, hello tunes and others.

Large number of subscribers had opted for monthly internet packs. We are being asked to pay the charges of those packs also despite the fact that mobile internet remains suspended for the past one month, they rued. The payments of bills and any add-on packs must be waived off for the period service remains suspended.

Similarly, the pre-paid subscribers said they have not used the mobile internet services and demanded validity of the internet pack to be extended.

Snapping of service comes even as the government has been claiming improvement in Kashmir situation, they said.

However, an official said, the service has been suspended in view of protests that take place after Friday prayers. However, he refused to comment on when the service would be exactly restored.

Meanwhile, the J&K Government has asked Internet Service Providers (ISPs) to stop internet services in Kashmir immediately, Greater Kashmir has learnt.

Several service providers said they got phone calls from authorities directing them to suspend the internet services, especially to newspapers and other media houses.

Only last night, the authorities blocked for the second time in a month the mobile phone services, except the state-owned BSNL post-paid phones. It has impacted work in newspaper offices.
