This will keep happening until the mere concept of dowry is considered a far bigger taboo than it currently is. The responsibility to make this an unthinkable concept in the society falls on the shoulders of girls and their parents. Stop buying men by giving them dowry. How anyone can respect such a man enough to marry their daughter off to them is beyond appalling itself.

The surprising part is that educated males from the subcontinent living in the west still expect and demand dowry.
I would blame their upbringing. their parents are responsible. It doesn't matter which financial institution they have been educated from , their attitude towards dowry does not change.

A lot of times it is the men's mothers and sisters who insist on dowry and then makes lives of wives who don't bring it hell. Nonetheless it is the man's responsibility to stand up to such ridiculous demands and protect their wives even if such demands are coming from their family members.
