Gaslighting is a form of manipulation that seeks to sow seeds of doubt in a targeted individual or in members of a targeted group, hoping to make them question their own memory, perception, and sanity. Using persistent denial, misdirection, contradiction, and lying, it attempts to destabilize the target and delegitimize the target's belief.

Sociopaths and narcissists frequently use gaslighting tactics. Sociopaths consistently transgress social mores, break laws, and exploit others, but typically also are convincing liars, sometimes charming ones, who consistently deny wrongdoing. Thus, some who have been victimized by sociopaths may doubt their own perceptions.

What distresses me the most is when the above identified "gaslighters" are invited as keynote speakers and chief guests at conferences conducted by educational institutions. What message do you give to the upcoming generation when you have certified liars and corrupt politicians take centre stage in sharing their wisdom and insights with impressionable minds? There should be a social boycott of such people. I do not expect the media to even consider such a proposition because they are after all purely and surely all about money, but the educational institutions should be ashamed of giving such people any importance.
I also pity Shari'ah Scholars who shake their hands when they meet them at "Islamic Finance" conferences, sit with them, eat with them, and to top it off, smile and laugh with them. Is this what their years and years of pursuit of knowledge about Quran and Sunnah taught them: to mingle with corrupt and liars?
