ISLAMABAD: President Asif Ali Zardaris two sisters, who are members of the National Assembly, have become considerably richer as compared to the last year, and they claim to be so officially.

The Election Commission of Pakistans (ECP) official gazette containing statements of assets and liabilities of all the 342 MNAs, a copy of which has been obtained by The News, says that Faryal Talpur has now cash in hand and a bank balance of Rs 36,425,625 compared to last years 13,049,279, showing an increase of Rs 23,376,346.

Neither in this declaration nor in the previous one did she give the name of her bank or her account number. Talpur, who is the chairperson of the womens wing of the Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP), also added to her immovable property a house (No.9) on Ahmed Road, Phulgran Tehsil, Islamabad, that she valued at Rs 18,72,000, and a 2007 model Land Cruiser costing Rs 9,200,000.

Her sister, Dr Azra Fazals declared cash in hand and bank balance of Rs 11,103,210 as against her last years figure of Rs 731,710, which registered an increase of Rs 10,371,500. She too did not disclose the name of the bank or her account number.

She made an advance payment of Rs270,000 for a villa in DHA Islamabad Valley and Rs837,500 for a plot in DHA Islamabad Homes. Talpurs assets, which remained the same, include: 52 acres of land in Deh Dalki, district Hyderabad (valued at Rs712,300), 153 acres of land in Deh Sajna, district Hyderabad (Rs3,636,500), 47 acres of land in district Sanghar (Rs100,000), Tractor Fiat (RS286,000), Equipments (Rs79,000), Arms and ammunition (Rs33,000), House No.41/1, Street II, Phase-V, DHA, Karachi (Rs6,000,000), Open Plot No.1, Lane-2, Phase-I, Sangar Housing Project Gwadar (Rs45,000), House No.D-75, Kehkashan Clifton Block-5, Karachi, Capital in Asif Apartments (Rs2,214,000) and Capital Land Marks (Rs1,400,000), Deposit in Golf Field Cattle Farming & Co (Pvt) Limited (Rs6,200,000), Another deposit for plot in Lahore (Rs125,000), 1/3rd share in deposit for plot in Lahore (son) (Rs41,666), 1/3rd share in agriculture land 14.3 acres in Sinjhoro district Sanghar (Rs65,000), old Mercedez car (Rs300,000), Corolla 2007 model (Rs950,000) (the pervious 2005 model Corolla valued at Rs900,000 does not figure in the latest declaration), jewellery (Rs300,000), and furniture and fixture (Rs450,000).

In her previous declaration, Mrs Talpur had shown liabilities of Rs77,500 before the head of other debts due to tenants deposit and advance. This year, she noted her liabilities under the heads of other debts due to tenants deposit and advance Rs1,570,000 and Aishas share in sale of land Rs12,024,252.

Dr Azra Fazals assets, which also remained the same in the new declaration as those of last year include: H.No.89/A/1, DHA (valued at Rs1,640,000), Plot No.A-4, St. S, Lane-5, Ph-1, Gwadar (Rs500,000), agriculture land in Preetamabad Sanghar (Rs2,400,000), Deposit for Plot SECHS Islamabad (Rs716,200), agriculture land on Mukata development cost (Rs230,000), Capital in Asif Apartment (Rs2,214,000), Capital in Land Mark (Rs1,351,000), Capital in Sajawal Academy (Rs7,852,400 as against the previous years Rs7,302,400), Business capital outside Pakistan Z.G.L (Rs800,000), no vehicle this time as against last year when she had declared a 2002 model Corolla valued at Rs845,000, 40 Tolas of gold (original cost Rs150,000, now valued at Rs800,000), furniture and fixture of Rs280,000 and minor son Muhammad Abdul Basit - 63 acres of agriculture land in Jhando Mari gifted on July 1, 2004 by grandfather (Rs1,500,000 now valued at Rs2,000,000). She has no liabilities.
