Found this piece by Iqbal Hussain (program "Such Ka Safar" on TV One) to be saying something - perhaps at many levels.
This Iqbal Hussain fellow sometimes dramatises things too much - but he DOES cover aspects not normally covered and he creates great sympathy for his subjects. However his appearance in western clothes detracts from the "melding in with the subjects" attempt.
Apart from the superficial "sob story" aspect, it goes beyond to the practical problems a person faces. And it demonstrates the greatness of his subject as a person - a thinking feeling person - in their handling of those situations.
In that it is a story about the person (the "self") in a Sufi sort of way. That is beyond the trappings of society, and family (which figure so heavily in Pakistani culture).
Which often also render our citizens INSULATED from the callings of reality in our country.
