Israel PM reveals modest take-home pay on Facebook

JERUSALEM - Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu on Monday revealed on his personal Facebook page a modest take-home salary of 15,027 Israeli shekels (4,201 dollars or 3,266 euros) a month.
The gross salary was listed as 43,952.92 shekels on his pay slip, in which some personal details such as Netanyahu's bank account number were blacked out.
The average gross monthly salary in Israel is 8,357 shekels.
Among the deductions from his December 2010 pay were 17,986 shekels in income tax, 3,689 shekels in compulsory national insurance, 2,770 shekels for health insurance and 3,149 shekels in pension contributions.
In addition to his official income, Netanyahu has the use of a state-owned official residence and an armour-plated car valued at 2.5 million shekels.
An accompanying message on Facebook said he decided to make the details public in response to online requests. "The prime minister has decided to provide total transparency concerning his pay slip," it said.
