Just three percent of UAE workers are happy with their current salary, according to the findings of a poll, while 67 percent believe they are underpaid compared to their industry peers.
The survey, by local recruitment firm Bayt.com, found that almost two thirds of employees in the Gulf state receive a basic salary plus benefits, with half of those polled claimed they were merely satisfied with their current renumeration package.
Just under half of UAE residents (44 percent) received a pay rise last year, although 48 percent said they were unhappy with the amount they received.
Over 50 percent of respondents in the research said that they believed their salaries were not keeping up with increasing costs of living, while eight out of ten said that they though the cost living would continue to rise in 2013.
“Salaries are not keeping pace with the rising cost of living in the UAE,” said, Suhail Masri, VP of sales, Bayt.com. “This is a general trend across the Middle East that companies must begin to address; in doing so, they will be able to contribute to building employee loyalty and satisfaction, and will have the opportunity to reduce the number of employees looking to change jobs within the next year,” he added.
