Internet Prices in Dubai are like 600% more than what we pay here in North America. Seriously?

I just had a thought of moving my North American business to UAE...so decided to check prices for basic stuff like internet

I pay around 61 dollars for 40mb business connection and for the same connection you have to pay WHOPPING $400 a month in Dubai.

It seems there is only one company that offers internet and thats the reason they are charging whatever they want?

Can anyone from Dubai confirm this

I am paying apporx USD 50 for 100Mbps fibre broadband plan.
Corporate plan will be expensive but not that much, I am pretty sure.

There may be restrictions on VOIP(like viber etc) too in Dubai, not sure though.

Yes.
Internet is ridiculously expensive here.
There are only two companies that are not allowed to overlap each other's territory so effectively you only have one choice depending upon where your office or home is located.
Customer service is like Pakistani politics. Its present but it just barks back and blames you and doesn’t really do anything at all.
At work I pay like 3k AED (about 800$/month) for a 100 mbps.

400USD for 40Mbps:13:

2 times more expensive than Pakistan : PTCL 50 mbps cost Rs. 20000 or roughly 200USD

Man...how do you make money if you are paying $800 just for the internet.

The only reason one would move down there so they could save money on taxes but it looks like, you will probably end up paying that money in expenses.

Sorry for confusion, I am not in UAE.
Rate I mentioned is for Japan.
About UAE I heard from my friend in UAE that the Royal family has monopoly on the Telecommunication service sector and I think they are just milking people

you are probably on residential.

for that you have to pay around $200 for 100mb and 3mb upload.

UAE Internet prices are very high compared to the US. However that is an unfair comparison. Over 50 percent of the world internet traffic passes through the US. Their population and infrastructure is a lot more larger than UAE's. The UAE hardly has 10 million people. The US has over 300 million. Pakistan over 200 Million. The UAE is a very small market and therefore the smaller the market the higher the prices of such commodities. Pakistan's cheap internet prices are cheap because they false advertise and frequently over sell.

Yes, UAE ripps off the people now in many ways. One example is telephone services (mostly being poor foreigners and in need to call their families) where they have exhorbitant charges. They do not allow VOIP services, just to steal poor foreign workers and accumulate fat profits for ETISALAT and DU public sector Companies. Apparently they do not have a tax system but their visa fee, exhorbitant communication expenses, traffic license fee, parking fee , bridge crossing etc, etc ---------- rips one off of all the money. One saves nothing!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Yes, UAE rips off the foreign workers in the name of many fees but apparently has no taxes which is a myth. Telephone is another big example where foreigners are obliged to call their families but ETISALAT and DU charge exhorbitant rates while no VOIP services are allowed.
