intekhab bhai....I know a little history of Iraq...and have three Iraqi friends who are working with me right now. They all are Shia and have attested to this that during Saddam Era, there was no Shia/Sunni conflict..people were regularly getting married among Shia's/Sunnis. If there was anyone no matter Shia or Sunni who would voice any concern against Saddam, then Saddam police would put them in Jail and all kind of atrocities would be committed on them. In Severe cases, your whole family would be killed and no one would dare to say anything. As long as you don't say anything against Saddam regime you are okay.
But after Saddam, this conflict has taken the turn for worst. My friends cannot visit their family in Baghdad, because 99% chances they would be kidnapped as they are living in Canada. They go to Jordan and ask their family members to come to Jordan if they want to spend time with them. There are many horror stories. I wish and pray that Allah help us all otherwise we are doomed.
